Welcome to Troop 366B and 366G!

Overview:

We are a Troop of roughly 20 boys and 5 girls that love to do outside activities, mainly camping.  Our meetings are held at the Lakepoint Community Church on Tuesday's @ 7:00PM in the back in the Youth Building.  Sometimes we're off having adventures on Tuesday, so reach out to us to make sure we'll be there.

 As an active troop, we participate in many events including;

  • Summer Camp at Cole Canoe Base, Camp Frontier/Pioneer, Camp Rotary and Hiawatha. (Currently a 4 year rotation)
  • Monthly campouts at D-Bar-A, Rotary, Silver Trails, Gerber, Owasipee, Toledo Zoo and even Ohio's Wright Patterson Air Force base

The BSA Scouting program is for youth (boys or girls) 11 to 18 years old or the end of 5th grade thru high school.  No prior scouting experience is required (you don't have to have been a cub scout first!).

As a scouting community, we are devoted to helping out the younger scouts earn their 1st Class Rank (moving thru the Scout, Tenderfoot, and 2nd Class Ranks), even if it is a simple act of showing someone how to tie a knot, or demonstrate the proper way to honor the colors.

The older scouts, through hours of work, are all trying to complete their journey and earn the Eagle rank. So far, over many years, quite a few scouts have joined this select group of individuals, and the troop hopes to see many more reach this level.

Mission Statement:

Troop 366 is a scout-led troop.  It is our goal to provide our scouts with the tools and resources to develop the skills needed to become responsible young men and women.  The scouts provide the enthusiasm and make the fun.

Troop 366

  • Our troop has approximately 20 Boys and r Girls working thru the BSA Scouting program
  • Many Scouts have advanced to the rank of Eagle Scout since 1988
  • We currently have multiple Scouts working on Eagle Scout

It is our goal to guide all our scouts on their path to the rank of Eagle Scout.

Scout Leadership

  • Troop 366 is run by our Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) and the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL).
  • The Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters work with the troop through the SPL and ASPL to provide leadership and a safe environment for the boys to meet.
  • Committee Members provide the resources to support all troop activities.  They attend to the equipment, monies, communication and other responsibilities that allow the Troop to run.
  • Scout Parents can volunteer for various functions in the troop and are not required to go on campouts but can if they want to.

Communication:

Troop communication is given verbally to the boys and girls each week at the troop meeting and online at http://oxford366.mytroop.us/home . Troop 366 has our own website that allows us to keep all scouts and parents informed on current and future troop activities.

Equipment:

Troop 366 is a fully equipped troop.  We currently have two trailers, a dual axle and a single axle trailer.  Each trailer is fully equipped to supply the scouts with the required equipment needed to have a successful camping experience.

Scouting Meetings:

Troop 366 meets every Tuesday at Lakepoint Community Church in Youth Center located in the back from 7:00-8:30 PM EST.

Q&A with Scoutmaster Streeter 01-12-2021

What is the troops normal meeting schedule?
Our normal meetings times are 7-8:30 on Tuesdays during School times.  We sometimes have outings/events on other days/times based on time of year, daylight hours etc.

Do you camp each month and what are some campouts you have done in the past?
Our standard Pre (and hopefully Post) Covid schedule is to camp 9-10 times per year.   A typical yearly Schedule is:
SEP - Canoe Weekend campout
OCT - Youth Leaders Choice - We have done Mountain Biking, Pioneering, and D-A Haunted forest campouts in the previous few years
NOV - Turkey Feast Campout at D-A - Family invites and Webelos Recruiting weekend
DEC - No Campout - Weekend outing - Trampoline Park, Other events
JAN/FEB - Hodag and Lockin
MARCH - New Scout Workshop and Scouting Skills training campout - Camp Rotary
APRIL - Youth Leaders Choice - We have done Walk in the boonies, Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton OH, and Toledo Zoo in past years
MAY -  Youth Leaders Choice - We have done Silver Lake Dunes, Gerber Scout Reservations, Owasippee Scout Ranch, Toledo Zoo, and Mountain Biking weekends in past years.
June - Some years we do a Trip White water rafting, trying to plan a 4-5 day High Adventure Hike along Pictured Rocks in the next year or 2. depends on interest and leaders to plan.
July - Summer Camp - Boys vote for camp, we DO not same each year, in fact last years camp is not allowed to be voted for, the past 8 years we have been in a 4 camp rotation - Cole Canoe Base, Pioneer (Ohio), Camp Rotary, Hiawatha (Mich UP)
August - High adventure camp - we have a rotation of Philmont and Florida Seabase.

What are your Troop Dues?   Do all scouts have a separate scout account?
Dues for the Troop are decided each year by the Committee.  Typically they are approx $130 on top of the BSA recharter fees.  Yes, each scout has a separate account.

What type of fundraising does your troop do in order to raise funds for scout accounts?
We do popcorn, Chriams wreaths, Easter Candy as well as Raise Right (gift cards for gifts and personal use) - My family uses Raise Right to pay for almost 100% of our scouting activity. 2 to 3 boys in scouting for the last 9+ years.

What is the cost of a typical monthly camp out, not including summer camp?
Typical base cost for food and transportation is $30 to $60.   Cabin rental (March) and Activity fees are Extra some months, for example when we go to Silver Lake we do Mac Dune Rides that is  apx $18 a person

What year was Troop 366 started?
I think 1981? or somewhere very close to that.

Does your Troop go to different summer camps, or do they typically go to the same one?
Different See above.

How many boys are in your Troop?
20 Active Scouts

Are you Patrols made up of a mix of ages or do you only put the same age group together?
Typically we create new patrols for same age incoming cross-overs.  We did a shake up and tried mixing of all ages about 6 years ago.. it didn't go as well as we had hoped.  So a few years later we went back to "New scout Patrol" methodology.  As boys age, patrols are typically combined/boys can move between patrols etc. Girls have their own patrol.

What is your board of review process for Rank?
I think we follow a standard process.  a BOR is done (with 3+ committee members) for each rank.  Not sure exactly what you are looking for here?  Maybe we can talk.

How involved are past eagle scouts, or aged out boys and past leadership with the Troop still today?
This is a very individual thing.  We have had past scouts come back and be very involved at times.  I have been ScoutMaster for 7 years now.  When I first started past leadership was still involved to help with the transition, learning curve.  Over the years they have become less involved. I think this is kind of natural as they have become busy in other things.   Past scouts are always welcome and encouraged to be involved.
